Electricity retailers offer to sell you electricity at a fixed price for a set number of years. Retailers solicit customers in a number of ways, but the most common is door-to-door. They also use telephone solicitation, advertising and mailers.

It’s important to remember that Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. is not associated with electricity retailers. We do not send people to your door to discuss your hydro bill and you do not have to show your bill to anyone who asks to see it.

No matter what you are told, you are not obligated to sign a contract with a retailer. Ask the sales representative to leave you the information so that you can make an informed choice before signing a contract. A reputable business will always leave their information with you, so if they refuse to do this, let them know that you are not interested and ask them to leave. Rest assured that Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. will always provide you with electricity based on the price regulated by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).

The price a retailer quotes you is for the cost of electricity only. You will still be responsible for all other charges currently found on your electricity bill such as delivery charges, regulatory charges and the debt retirement charge to name a few. For a detailed breakdown of a typical bill so you can compare the “Price of Electricity” with what the retailer is offering you, go to about your utility bill.

The Ontario Energy Board has a website dedicated to providing you with information on electricity retailers.
